Abstract

The aim of this case is to provide a realistic business setting in which students can understand the value of applying specific operations management / management science methods and also of using decision analysis software. In this case, students are asked to advise the head of the planning department on how to make better informed decisions. A minimal spanning tree problem, a maximal flow problem, a shortest route problem and a linear programming problem are introduced and applied. An extensive teaching note has been provided to give software solutions and a critical analysis of these solutions.
