Abstract
Founded in 1967 by Mr Kim, Daewoo developed into one of the largest companies in the world, but behind the dramatic growth lie failures; financial, managerial and technological weaknesses. The Korean Government tries to force Daewoo to consolidate and concentrate on fewer businesses, but Mr Kim resists. The case sheds light on the emergence of one of the largest third-world multinationals, and describes its diversification and internationalisation. With Korea''s comparative advantage eroding, there are question marks over Daewoo''s competitive advantages.
