Abstract

''Everyone agrees'' it would be better if suppliers and retailers shared more information to inform both better decisions and better implementation of these decisions. Yet still, comparatively little information is shared, and information sharing remains a fraught subject for both sides. To make better, richer information sharing possible, the industry needs to address many challenges. These include: (1) financial incentives (including the tendency to see information as a revenue source); (2) legal uncertainties (especially about anti-trust issues); (3) poor implementation of data standards; (4) poor data skills; and (5) lack of trust. To make progress, we need to address all of these issues in a systematic way.
