Abstract
The case argues that establishing an advanced information technology infra- structure can provide a competitive advantage not only for the country that develops it, but also for the companies that creatively use it. It describes the development of the most successful national videotex system, Minitel, and highlights why it was successful while the other systems have been commercial failures. It also stresses the strategic business impact of Minitel.
