Abstract

This case deals with the problem of an entrepreneurial company development in health care. Thanks to the entrepreneurial qualities of the company founder Marina M Vlasova, the ONA clinic has become one of the leading multi-field clinics in St Petersburg. Beginning with its foundation, the clinic aimed to be a health preservation clinic for women. At the same time, as the company was developing, new fields unrelated to the core ''business'' of the clinic were emerging, and that led to brand erosion. Also, the founder of the company tried to bring in a team of professional managers to run the company. Medical doctors and managers with no medical education, started to confront each other. The growing firm faced these and other problems, which made it necessary to make a decision about the further development of the clinic, ie, about concentrating either on a narrow market segment targeted at women''s health support, or on further diversification which would help the company make a profit on a wide range of medical services.
