Abstract

This case is designed for students in business law and business ethics classes and / or students in international law, environmental law, or government-business relations courses. The case considers the application of the Rotterdam Convention in the context of the controversial stance adopted by the Government of Canada opposing the listing of chrysotile asbestos as a chemical subject to the Prior Informed Consent protocol. The case exposes students to a complex environment in which science, law and politics - national and international - interconnect. They will be challenged to evaluate prior biases and analyse complex issues surrounding the application of international regulation.
