Abstract
The case details an example of how addressing the climate change issue makes business sense. It introduces explaining the partnership between Nokia Siemens Networks and WWF International's Climate Savers program. Climate Savers is a program that supports companies in reducing their carbon dioxide emissions. Nokia Siemens Networks chose to focus on its products and improve the energy efficiency of its base station products. It explains R&D's (research and development) assignment and how the project came to creation, including the Design for Environment process. It discusses the benefits and characteristics of the base station, especially in environmental criteria such as energy efficiency. It addresses some challenges in selling the product. It shows how the product is making a positive impact in developing markets. Finally, the company gives their biggest lessons on business, climate change and innovation. A video 'Let the Clean Economy Begin' is available to view on the Climate Savers website at www.vimeo.com/12276304.
