Abstract
The case describes a Chinese entrepreneur Xi, who - for financial reasons - partners with a more experienced businessman, Cheung. They open a factory for the manufacture of textile dyes. The factory faces cost overruns, low productivity, industrial accidents and environmental concerns. When handling these issues, Xi defers to Cheung's experience and shrewd business skills. Not surprisingly, Cheung's unprincipled techniques fail and the business goes bankrupt.
