This technical note presents a brief explanation of the concept of money and its role in the administration of wealth and resources. Setting out from the balance sheets of central and commercial banks, the processes of money creation and its control through monetary policy are explained. An explanation is also given of the process of money and credit creation by means of the corresponding multiplier. This note was previously numbered 398-117-6.
