About the Wits Business School case collection

Wits Business School makes extensive use of the case method in our classrooms and we have a number of skilled case teachers on our staff. Recognising that the South African business environment has many unique characteristics which cannot be explored in international cases, we established the Case Centre in 1999 to research and write cases on South African business. To ensure that our cases are of the highest standard, we retained a Harvard-trained case writer to help develop the specialised skills we needed. Today those skills are firmly entrenched in the Case Centre and its approach to case writing.

WBS is the largest producer of case studies in Africa and our repertoire of cases is growing continually. Our cases cover all areas of business and management, including strategy, finance, organisational design and development, globalisation and human resources. They are increasingly used across the world by universities, educational institutions and corporations, and highly regarded for the quality of debate and learning that they generate. A WBS case, Woolworths: Making Sustainability Sustainable won the 2011 African Association of Business Schools case competition and several of our cases have been selected to appear in the Emerald Emerging Markets Case Collection.
