2013

For this year’s competition, students took on the role of consultants for one of the largest producers of palm oil in the world and dealt with complex questions relating to sustainability certification, regional economic development, and stakeholder engagement with activist environmental organisations.

The 2012 competition introduced an innovative case study produced by the Yale School of Management in conjunction with Technológico de Monterrey that asks students to imagine themselves in the shoes of Manuel Gómez Peña, Director of Sustainability for Walmart de México y Centroamérica, as he considers future renewable energy projects and investments by his company across Mexico.

This year's case was produced by the Yale School of Management and students had to analyse the costs and benefits of expanding the US presence of a Chinese renewable energy company. The case challenged students to innovate at the intersection of corporate profitability and environmental, social and ethical issues.
