Urs is an experienced (executive education) educator and author in the areas of Business Ethics, Strategy and Change Management, and enjoys the opportunity and privilege to regularly discuss with executives the dilemmas they face in their daily lives.
Urs currently serves as Associate Professor of Practice at SDA Bocconi (Milan, Italy) and Affiliate Program Director at ESMT Berlin (Germany).
After his studies of German Literature, Philosophy, and Art History at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen (Germany) and the Université de Fribourg (Switzerland), Urs taught at the Georg-August-Universität, the Uniwersytet Mikołaja Kopernika (Torun, Poland) and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (U.S.).
During and after working on his PhD at the Georg-August-Universität, Urs worked as a management consultant for A.T. Kearney, where he served several international clients in different industries.
For the last 14 years, Urs has directed and taught various open (including ESMT’s flagship program “Executive Transition Program“) and customised executive education programs for customers such as Axel Springer, British American Tobacco, Coca-Cola, Commerzbank, Deutsche Telekom, Deutsche Bank, EnBW, Johnson&Johnson, Lufthansa, McDonald’s, METRO, Schaeffler and Symrise. Additionally, he teaches as visiting lecturer in different degree programs (Bachelor, Master level, MBA or EMBA programs) at ESMT Berlin, Porto Business School (Portugal), Berlin School of Economics and Law (Germany), ESCP Europe (Berlin), and the School for Executive Education and Development (Budapest, Hungary).
His work has frequently been featured or quoted in several leading media including BBC, BILD, Deutsche Welle, Financial Times, Handelsblatt, Spiegel Online, Süddeutsche Zeitung and The Times.
Urs is a bestselling and award-winning case author. He has appeared in The Case Centre's Top 50 Bestselling Case Authors on four occasions, and won the Outstanding Case Teacher competition in 2020. In 2024, along with fellow workshop tutor Martin Kupp, Urs published The Ultimate Case Guide: How to Successfully Teach and Write Case Studies. The book explores the historical roots and modern applications of the case method. It offers tools to create engaging learning environments, and provides practical guidance to craft cases that connect theory with practice.
Urs has been a workshop tutor for The Case Centre since 2014 and has delivered over 30 case training events.
