Workshop: Writing Effective Cases

16 June 2023, 14h-15.30h (BST) Online introductory session
29-30 June 2023, 9h-16.30h (BST) In-person at London Business School, UK

Are you new to case writing or keen to sharpen your case writing skills? This in-person workshop will give you the knowledge and confidence you need to create your own highly effective teaching cases. It is ideal for those with little or no experience of writing cases, as well as more experienced case authors, who want to learn even more about the ‘tricks of the trade’, and spend some time working on their ideas in a structured process approach that is formed around the idea of rapid prototyping.

Combining an online introductory session on Zoom, and two days in-person at London Business School, this workshop will provide an immersive, comprehensive and inspiring case writing experience.

Overview

Over the course of the workshop participants will have the opportunity to take time out to develop an idea they already have, and form it into the first draft of a case and teaching note. The workshop will be supported by a case writing workbook that provides structure and exercises, and guides participants through the case writing process.

At the online introductory session participants will meet the tutor and their fellow workshop colleagues. The group will learn what makes a good case, and will begin thinking about an idea for a case that they can work on during the in-person workshop. Whilst it is preferable to attend this session live (synchronously), provision will be made to watch it later asynchronously for any participants that cannot attend live.

At the in-person sessions, to be held at London Business School's central London campus, the tutor will guide participants through the case writing process. Participants will work with each other to develop their case, and will come away with a supportive network of case writing colleagues for the future.
