About Australia and New Zealand School of Government

Australia and New Zealand School of Government (ANZSOG) delivers an internationally acclaimed case teaching program with outstanding teachers and an outstanding collection of topical, stimulating teaching cases.

The ANZSOG Case Program has specialist case writers in Melbourne (Australia) and Wellington (New Zealand) who are also available to assist external writers with case development. ANZSOG has delivered practical workshops on case teaching and writing, and has a development strategy to promote the use of interactive teaching in public policy and management education in Australia and New Zealand. The Case Program is always seeking new, well-written teaching cases of up to 4,000 words and can fund the development of cases by, or for, academic staff in ANZSOG’s partner institutions, or public servants in member governments.

Excellence in teaching and learning is central to ANZSOG's mission, and case-based teaching underpins ANZSOG's flagship programs and shorter courses. At ANZSOG, discussion-led teaching draws on recent, cross-jurisdictional experience from two nations that, arguably, moved further and faster than others in public sector reform.

About the free case collection

ANZSOG's teaching cases are all set in the public sector, and cover topics including accountability and governance, public value, co-production, change and innovation, collaboration and partnerships, risk management and regulation, with a number of cases dealing with human resource management, and the management of information technology and knowledge.

The collection includes single and multi-part cases, many of which can be used for a variety of teaching purposes. ANZSOG cases are concise, lively and engaging, and an active window on current public sector practice in the southern hemisphere. Case development is strongly supported by the participating governments, and case writers have unprecedented access to free and frank recall of recent, often controversial, events.

ANZSOG cases are all accessible for free.
