Abstract
Quirk Oil Nigeria is the Nigeria arm of the global brand, Quirk Energy Company (QEC) with headquarter in California, USA. The company is into exploration and production of crude oil as well as the sales of every oil product. QEC has built its brand over the last 68 years before it climbed the ladder to become a Fortune 500 company listed on the New York Stock Exchange. With a total asset of $140 billion, QEC was amongst the top 10 most capitalised company in the world. QEC’s Nigeria arm, Quirk Oil Nigeria, was an equally big brand by all measurable parameters but its image was facing a threat of misinformed and ill-equipped journalists who without required knowledge put pen to paper and cripple the image of organisation. When analysed, this journalists were not exactly to be blamed because they were only writing based on the information available to them; however, one could argue that it was their responsibility to equip themselves adequate enough to write informed editorials and arm the population with information, but this was not the case. This mishap was, therefore, a kibosh to the image of Quirk who had done all its best to remain on the right side.
