Abstract

Srikanth Bolla (Srikanth), a blind entrepreneur who established Bollant Industries, had to face challenges and discrimination due to his disability, throughout his childhood. However, his disability did not deter him from pursuing his goals. Instead of smothering him, as advised by villagers, Srikanth's parent chose to provide education to him. With the support of his parents, Srikanth began breaking down every barrier put in his path, right from his schooling to graduation to becoming a successful entrepreneur of a start-up company that gave opportunity to differently abled people in Hyderabad. Srikanth was helping differently abled individuals integrate into mainstream Indian society. But the journey was not so easy. Srikanth had to face hurdles right from the beginning. He was denied to take up Science stream after he topped his Class 10 Board exams. Instead of giving up, Srikanth sued the government and after a six-month long wait, the authorities agreed to let him pursue Science at his own risk. To everyone's surprise, Srikanth topped Class 12, securing 98%. Later, he was denied admission at IIT, however, he managed to secure admission in MIT, US. After graduating from MIT, Srikanth felt the need to do something about the lack of opportunities for the disabled in India. In 2012, he started Bollant Industries with the aim to provide livelihood opportunities to physically-challenged. By 2016, Bollant had five manufacturing units and the company was worth INR500 million. Amidst these backdrops, the questions foremost in the mind were, What made a success story of the young and blind entrepreneur Srikanth an inspiring and satiating one? Was it because of his unusual journey from being an underdog to becoming a millionaire? Or a belief that anyone, despite the physical challenges, can achieve success if he sets his minds and hearts to it.
