Abstract

This software is to accompany the case. The case focuses on a retailer and manufacturers in a supply chain that produce and sell variety of different products for children such as children clothes, shoes, toys, furniture, and strollers. The goal of this case study is to introduce students to real-life operational problems that different companies in a supply chain face. In particular, the case deals with the two main issues: (1) Assignment problem of the retailer 'FIRST SMILE'T which has to open different retailer’s stores at different locations in order to maximize its expected annual profit. Thus, to find the optimal assignment, different optimization techniques can be used. (2) Production scheduling problems at different manufacturers from whom the retailer orders directly. Different manufacturers possess different production systems consisting of a single-machine system, a flow shop or a job shop. Thus, to evaluate and to optimize the performance of the manufacturers, different techniques and methods for sequencing jobs in different production systems can be implemented.
