The concept of competitive gaming had existed since decades in Silicon Valley with the world's first video game tournament Spacewar held at Stanford University in 1972. Since then, eSports had evolved into a major global entertainment trend. Successful live tournaments were held around the world, generating massive audience who tuned in to watch the events and their favourite players. Organisations like World Cyber Games, Electronic Sports World Cup and Major League Gaming had laid the foundation for eSports industry. eSports had created a lucrative new market for advertisers, sports teams, brands, media, and entertainment companies. As of 2018, the eSports industry had garnered market revenue of USD905.6 million. Despite these growth trends, there were concerns in regard to the gamer's health, ethical issues, legal issues and regulatory barriers. Will eSports succeed to overcome the barriers? Will competitive gaming be part of mainstream sport? Would eSports revolutionize the sports and gaming industry in times to come?
