Abstract
This paper presents the importance of soft skills for a project management professional with specific reference to the on-site management and communication in the construction sector. The paper uses case-study narration to illustrate how the lack of soft skills and an inability to understand the organizational hierarchy and processes involved in peer interaction can lead to potential conflict situations for a fresher who has just entered the industry. The possibilities of such conflicts increase when the reporting authority and the administrative authority happen to be different, as seen in large-scale construction companies involved in multiple projects. This paper would be of particular interest to construction management professionals for better management of their career and the administrative/ reporting authorities for better management of such recruits. This case has been made available free of charge.
