Abstract
It's yesterday once more for Jet Airways! The Resolution Plan of Jet Airways indicated that in the first quarter of the financial year 2022-23, it will resume flights after the approval of creditors for the bid submitted by Murari Lal Jalan and Florian Fritsch consortium. The NCLT (National Company Law Tribunal) had already approved the resolution plan of the consortium. Further, they had ordered the Civil Aviation Ministry to allot the airport slot to Jet Airways within 90 days of passing the order. Amidst its revival plans, Jet is also facing its dark past with fresh allegations by CBI and three more agencies, the income-tax department; the Serious Fraud Investigation Office and Enforcement Directorate on Naresh Goyal for money laundering and unethical practices. In the meantime, Sanjeev Kapoor, ex-Vistara Airlines officer and current president, Oberoi Hotels and Resorts has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) by the Consortium on Friday 4th March 2022 and shall be joining Jet Airways from April 4, 2022. So, while and the new kid on the block is excitedly making future plans, the tarnished image and rebuilding the future on shaky grounds seems to be for real. Stakeholders are sceptical whether Jet will ever be free from the clutches of its past and rise up like phoenix again. Jalan has a challenging task of settling issues with the creditors and employees besides getting lost flight slots both within the country as well as in the foreign markets. Will Jalan be able to revive the airlines? Much remains to be seen as the engine roars.
