Abstract
The European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company (EADS), the largest in European aerospace and defence sector and the second largest in the world, was established in 2000. By 2004, the company rose from number 443 to number 251 in the ''Business Week Global 1000'' rankings which can be attributed to the success of its airbus division in the global commercial aircraft manufacturing business. EADS expects to maintain its leadership through its double-decker jumbo jet A380, which is scheduled for commercial launch in 2006.This case focuses on the rationale behind the formation of the EADS and its strategies to transform itself into the largest commercial aircraft manufacturer in the world.
