Abstract
The case deals with a project to build an oil pipeline by 2005 from Baku, Azerbaijan on the Caspian Sea to Ceyhan, Turkey on the Mediterranean Sea. It involves multiple issues dealing with geography, the natural environment, politics, war and business. All these matters must be confronted by managers in the consortium that will build and then use the pipeline. Treating the issues separately and jointly allows the students to appreciate the complexity of this special type of direct foreign investment and to plan for multiple contingencies using scenario analysis. This case was sponsored by the Indiana University CIBER Case Collection.
