Abstract
The case study focuses on the path of an injured patient through the National Health Service. The patient experiences a catalogue of errors which result in eventual litigation against the hospital. The errors that arise throughout the case highlight how lack of good management and communication can result in poor decision making. The teaching note that guides students through a series of discussions about the problems and helps them to think about the competencies needed by doctors in managerial roles.
