Abstract
The case concerns the problems of a small, manufacturing company (part of a large group) and deals in particular with export difficulties caused by vertical integration, the rising pound and problems in domestic demand. It was designed to give students the opportunity of discussing real problems, and in particular, the consideration of a joint venture operation. In view of the fact that the company was part of a large group, disaggregated financial data was difficult to obtain. Equally, export/import statistics were not available specifically for the products under discussion. Although designed for students of textile marketing, the case will also be of use to undergraduates on similar courses (e.g. textiles with management) and also to students of international marketing.
