Abstract

This is part of a case series. The (B) case looks at the challenges faced by the IS group at Heineken Netherlands as they try to design and build an information system backbone that would be flexible enough to evolve as the needs of Heineken's business changed. The overriding objective of the IS/IT transformation was to develop a configuration such that information systems and technology would add value to the business and to the supply chain management transformation. The case examines the three phases of the IS/IT transformation: (1) recognising the need for change; (2) outsourcing the 'old' to enable Heineken to develop the new IS/IT infrastructure; and (3) leveraging information assets in the business.
