Abstract
On 25 June 2006, after a fierce battle of five months, Laxmi Mittal was able to make the deal with Arcelor. The Arcelor Mittal group became the largest steel company globally, far ahead of the next company, Nippon Steel. The merged entity would have unprecedented geographical presence, a complimentary product portfolio, unmatched financial strength and enjoy a huge raw material reserve. But analysts were sceptical about the integration issue of the merged entity. The case gives a detailed analysis about how Laxmi Mittal made the deal happen.
