Abstract
This is the first of a two-case series (507-035-1 and 507-075-1). Dartfish SA was a privately held software company based in Switzerland. A worldwide leader in sports video training, the firm developed, produced, and marketed two video processing technologies used to highlight movement. Dartfish promoted these technologies mainly for athletic applications such as sports training and exclusive televised broadcasts. Dartfish packaged and sold its software in the US and Europe. In late 2005, Dartfish was expanding rapidly. Management was considering whether to rebuild the software platform and whether to prepare for an initial public offering. In 2005, sales totaled approximately US$6 million. This case is suitable for courses in marketing strategy and global marketing.
