Abstract
The pressure to 'be digital' has never been greater, but you can meet the challenge. The digital revolution is here, changing how work gets done, how industries are structured, and how people from all walks of life work, behave, and relate to each other. To thrive in a world driven by data and powered by algorithms, we must learn to see, think, and act in new ways. We need to develop a digital mindset. Developing a digital mindset means learning to stay in sync with remote collaborators. This chapter explores the idea of mutual knowledge as a foundation to effective collaboration, and suggests three ways to foster digital presence: send updates, create a sense of curiosity, and communicate on their timeline. The chapter then talks about what each of the three ways means in practice. Other strategies to nurture one's digital presence includes engaging in the company's internal social media intentionally, focusing on the right data, and remaining 'in mind' while 'out of sight'. This chapter is excerpted from 'The Digital Mindset: What It Really Takes to Thrive in the Age of Data, Algorithms, and AI'.
